Haven activities: Junior Segways

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

If you’re going on a holiday to a Haven park, then you can expect there to be lots of activities to take part in. As there are lots to choose from, it can be hard to know what to pick! Find out more about Junior Segways, an activity we took part in at Haven Caister-On-Sea.

How to book

You can book activities in advance of your Haven holiday online, or on the My Haven app. You can browse through the days of your holiday to see when certain activities are available. It might be that some activities are only run once during this time.

If you book in advance, you can do so via your Haven account or the app. You will need to select the day and time of the activity from the activity listings, and how many people will be participating. Adults supervising don’t need to pay for a space. You will need to pay in advance when booking via the app.

Booking is also possible at the Haven site you’re staying at. There is usually a desk or area for booking any activities, possibly in the family entertainment centre.

This activity costs £12 (2025 price) per person.

What age is Junior Segways suitable for?

Junior Segways is suitable for all ages 8+.

How long does the session last?

Junior Segways sessions last for 30 minutes.

In order for your session to start on time, it’s important to be at the Multi-Sport Court at least 5 minutes before the start time.

Junior Segways: What can you expect from the activity?

If your child is anything like mine and loves trying something a bit different, then Junior Segways might just be the highlight of their holiday. It’s one of those unique activities that you won’t find at every holiday park, but it’s well worth booking if your chosen Haven site offers it.

The session costs £10, which isn’t bad at all considering the experience, and it lasts around 30 minutes. That gives the kids a decent amount of time to get to grips with the Segway and have a proper go on the course.

You’ll need to check in with a member of the activities team just before your child’s session starts, usually near the activity area. There might be a quick safety form to fill out on a tablet, which just covers things like health and consent.

Once checked in, the team will help your child get kitted out with a helmet and go over the basic controls. They’re brilliant at explaining things in a fun and simple way, so even nervous first-timers usually warm up quickly. There will be a quick practice so all of the children can get used to the segways, and how they work.

The Junior Segways are great fun and a real confidence booster. Kids get to cruise around a little track, mastering their balance and control while weaving through cones or tackling gentle turns. It’s all very safe and well-supervised, with team members on hand throughout the session to offer encouragement and help if needed.

Although it’s a short activity, children usually come off absolutely buzzing with excitement. It’s something a bit different from the usual holiday activities, and it gives them a real sense of achievement.

As with a lot of Haven’s outdoor activities, this one can be weather dependent, so keep an eye on the forecast. And because it’s such a popular choice, especially during school holidays, I’d definitely recommend booking in advance via the Haven app or website to avoid missing out.
