Staying in a Bronze caravan at Haven Cleethorpes Beach

The O'Hallorans

The OHallorans

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

When it comes to booking a Haven holiday, the caravan you stay in is one of the most important decisions you can make. We stayed at Cleethorpes Beech and stayed in a Bronze grade caravan during the summer holidays.

Living area & kitchen

As soon as we walked into the caravan we noticed that the layout was slightly different to what we had stayed in at other locations, but that wasn’t a bad thing. Here, the kitchen was a lot more open as there was less counter space. This was a plus for us though as it meant we didn’t feel as cramped. This allowed us to pull the dining table out a bit when needed so all 4 of us could sit around it.

We did find the kitchen equipment to be lacking on this occasion though. The scissors didn’t work and were nearly falling apart and we had to hunt for a decent knife, which was for some reason kept with the glasses!

Moving forward into the lounge, there were 2 separate sofas, a small coffee table, a footstool with storage and storage underneath the television. It was nice to have 2 sofas, so we didn’t all have to squeeze together on one. Again, this was quite a spacious area and it was somewhere we enjoyed some downtime on an evening! We brought our throw from home just to make it a bit cosier.

Bedrooms

Our bronze caravan was a 2 bedroom caravan, instead of having 3 bedrooms as there were only 4 of us staying at Haven. There’s a small hall leading off from the kitchen which leads to these rooms. Unfortunately on this occasion, there was no door blocking off the kitchen from the bedrooms. This meant that any sound carried through the caravan quite easily and keeping sound from travelling to the bedrooms wasn’t easy.

The bedrooms themselves were absolutely fine though and perfect for a 4-night stay. In both bedrooms we all said how comfortable the beds were and how nice the pillows were. The 4 of us slept really well for the duration of our holiday.

The main bedroom consisted of a double bed, a small make-up area and a hidden wardrobe and storage area. There was also a small bedside table on each side of the bed.

The smaller twin bedroom had 2 small single beds and a wardrobe. There wasn’t a lot of storage space here, especially for 2 people but we made use of extra space elsewhere such as the main bedroom.

Bathroom

Unlike some of the higher grade caravans, the Bronze caravan did not have an additional toilet in the main bedroom. This meant that we had 1 bathroom between 4 of us. This wasn’t a big deal though and we made it work the best we could.

The bathroom itself had a shower cubicle, sink with small shelf above and toilet. There was also a small radiator next to the toilet. On the whole, the bathroom was absolutely fine for our stay at Haven Cleethorpes Beach. We could have done with some storage, such as a cupboard to put things like extra toilet roll though.

Choosing your Haven holiday home

We paid extra to choose which caravan we stayed in and where the location would be. Haven Cleethorpes Beach is a huge site, especially compared with the smaller sites we usually stay at in Norfolk.

Prices and locations available vary, depending on how busy a particular park is. This time, we paid £40 to choose our caravan but we have paid less in the past. You can also upgrade your caravan but this does mean a higher additional cost.

We chose to stay in The Meadows, which was close to all of the main amenities such as the restaurants, swimming pool and play area. This was a less than 5-minute walk for us and it meant the extra cost was so worthwhile.

A few negatives

Compared to other Haven caravans we have stayed in before, we found this one lacking in a few ways, which were:

  • No door between living room/ kitchen and the bedrooms
  • Lack of wall storage in bedrooms
  • No towels (I didn’t realise this as we had towels at Wild Duck)
  • Kitchen utensils were poor on this occasion
  • No stool for make-up area in main bedroom

With that being said, there was a lot of good about this caravan too and we did enjoy our stay. Considering we only used it as a base and didn’t spend too much time in the caravan, it wasn’t worth spending more to upgrade on this occasion.
