The O'Hallorans

The OHallorans

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

Seating with a difference

Before the show started we were shown to our seats. Seating at the Pavilion Theatre is a little bit different compared to a traditional theatre. Here, you’re seated at tables of 6, being shared with others unless you book all 6 seats.

We had seats right at the front of the stage, and a table to ourselves. It was nice to have somewhere to put our things, without balancing everything on our knees! This is a much more comfortable way to enjoy a show at the theatre as a family.

Gorleston Summer Showtime

Hosting the show this year is one of our favourites, Olly Day, who we have had the pleasure of seeing in other shows before this. He is such a wonderful host, always including the audience, seemingly making some of it up as he goes along depending on reactions and answers, but always so funny!

Guest acts throughout the summer

One of the real highlights of Summer Showtime at Gorleston Pavilion is the rotating line-up of guest acts. You can see the full line-up on the theatre’s website, which makes picking who you want to see easier. This year, audiences can look forward to appearances from Kev Orkian, Ben Langley, a local favourite known for his hilarious sketches and slapstick humour, Pip Randelle,Tommy J and Danny Lee Grew.

Ben Langley's misheard lyrics act

We had the pleasure of seeing a show with Ben Langley, who we have seen in the past at the Hippodrome! As we had Erin with us, he was the ideal guest act, thanks to his really silly comedy and signature ‘misheard lyrics’ bit. Erin was laughing to much every time he was on stage!

A variety of entertainment

Summer Showtime is absolutely packed full of variety, perfect for a seaside show like this. Singers Aaron Bolton and Nina Taylor (from Kidz Pop Party) are joined by a cast of amazing dancers. Over the course of the show there’s a lovely mix of songs and dancing, comedy, appearances from the guest acts and aerial tricks from Sue King.

We really loved the mix of songs included in this year’s show. There’s a bit of everything from upbeat songs to sing along to, throwback to the 70s and a section for James Bond! I really feel like there’s something for all ages here, with each of us enjoying one section more than others.

Being a seaside variety show, you can expect some adult humour throughout. However, it’s not too much and most of it went over Erin’s head (9). There were just a few jokes that were a bit too grown up for her. Other than that, it’s such a family friendly show and one we all enjoyed from the minute it started.

The show does finish quite late, at around 10:15. It might be worth keeping an eye out for the matinee performances for younger children!
