The O'Hallorans

The OHallorans

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

Are you a film buff travelling to Wroclaw? Maybe you are just interested in films! If you are, you must visit MovieGate in Wroclaw, where you can see a unique collection of props and costumes.

Visiting MovieGate, Wroclaw

One of the great things about MovieGate is that it’s located in the main market square area of Wroclaw. If you’re visiting, it would be hard to miss this location as you’re likely to walk past it quite a few times. To get to MovieGate, you need to go underground, into a real bunker used during World War II. It’s certainly a different venue for a film museum.

Inside the magical world of cinema

As the exhibit is set in a World War II bunker it can be a little bit creepy. I definitely had vibes of being in the film Hostel at times! Each of the film exhibits in is it’s own little room, cleverly covered in places to protect the items from light damage.

Something to know is that each of the pieces here is original and there are no replicas. if I’m completely honest but actually, there are some really cool things here. Exepct to see things from Harry Potter such as Aragog the spider, costumes from X-Men, items from film sets like Star Wars (a fragment of the Death Star) and Pirates of the Caribbean. There were items from some real blockbuster moves here and I wasn’t expecting so much. There are images and information to go with each exhibit, so you know exactly what you’re looking at. Chances are that you will already know what a lot of the costumes and props are from though.

Explore the old air raid shelter

As well as the items from film productions, there are also areas where you can learn more about the air-raid shelter and the Second World War. This isn’t for everyone, especially if you’re only interested in the film memorabilia. Although we did look around this, we didn’t spent too long in this area.

Mad Science Shows

MovieGate also hosts Mad Science Shows for both children and adults at 12pm and 4pm daily. Sadly, I didn’t know this during my visit and I wish I’d been told when I bought tickets.

How long should you spend at MovieGate?

If you plan to only look around the movie props, and not watch the science show, you should expect to spend around an hour at MovieGate.

Is it worth visiting?

Although this is only a small attraction, I had a great time here. It’s great value for money at around £6 so even though you don’t spend loads of time looking around, it doesn’t matter too much. Had I known about the science shows being available for adults, I probably would have gone back to do this on another day. I think MovieGate is definitely worth the visit and I was really glad to have found it.
