The O'Hallorans

The OHallorans

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

Looking for a perfect city break? Let me tell you about our stay at the Mercure Wrocław Centrum. Nestled in the heart of Wrocław, this hotel was the ideal base for exploring the city’s vibrant culture, stunning architecture, and delicious cuisine.

How to get to Mercure Wrocław Centrum

If you’re flying into Wroclaw airport then the easiest and quickest way to get to the hotel is by Uber. Taxi options outside of the airport are very expensive and will charge you around double, if not more, than what an Uber will cost on the app. We used Ubers both to and from the airport costing around £4.50 and £5.30 at different times of the day. The journey took 20-25 minutes.

You cna also get a bus from Wroclaw Airport into the city center, which will cost you around 5 PLN or £1. Although this is cheaper, the journey takes 40-45 minutes.

Checking in / checking out

Check-in time at room Mercure Wrocław Centrum is 3pm. If you arrive earlier and your room isn’t ready, there is a secure luggage storage room where you can leave your things. Check-out time is at 12pm, and again, you can ask the helpful staff to use the luggage storage room if you wish.

First impressions

I actually changed my original booking in Wroclaw quite last minute as the Mercure Wrocław Centrum was in a much better location and it wasn’t much more expensive. As we pulled up to the hotel, I was impressed at where it was and what we could see around it. The hotel is in such a good location and there’s a shopping centre right next door.

Location

The main reason why I changed to this hotel was the central location. You’re only a short walk from many attractions such as Old Town, the main market square and the city centre. You can get to the center of Wroclaw within a ten-minute walk and there are trams and buses that stop right outside of the hotel. I couldn’t have asked for a better location really.

Staying in a twin room

As I was visiting Wroclaw with my sister, I booked a twin room so that we had separate beds. Our room was so spacious and we were impressed as soon as we walked in. The room we booked was a ‘Classic Twin Room with City or Cathedral View’ which was 183 square feet. You can also book family rooms which come with an extra bed. This particular room was at the front of the hotel, so we got a great view of the church across the road.

Space and storage

As you enter the room there was so much space for clothes and storing our luggage. Not only was there a large wardrobe with quite a few hangers but shelves and drawers. We had more than enough clothes storage for the 2 of us. Inside the wardrobe was a safe which could easily fit a laptop, as well as other items. It was easy to program and I used the safe for the entire stay.

Further along and into the bedroom area there was a small fridge concealed with a cupboard door, and an area which had a flat-screen tv which had cable TV channels and tea and coffee-making facilities. Something I loved about this room was how many different spaces there was. As well as all of the storage there was also a desk for getting ready in the morning or working space, as well as a small table with chairs to sit at. A lot had been thought about to ensure a pleasant stay.

Comfortable beds

I sometimes struggle with hotel beds, being so used to my own at home. However, Mercure Wrocław Centrum offers such comfortable rooms so the beds and pillows at this hotel were so good that I struggled to get up each morning! The room had plenty of plug sockets, including next to the beds, which I find to be really helpful. We did need plug adaptors though as there was no USB ports but this wasn’t a big deal.

Private bathroom

Our room had a private bathroom which had a walk-in shower, toilet, large sink area and mirror. The shower was fantastic and quite hot and powerful, and came stocked with free toiletries. The shower space was large too so if you had to bathe children, grown-ups could easily get in there too. Hair dryers can be found attached to the wall in the bathroom if you haven’t brought one of your own.

Breakfast at Mercure Wrocław Centrum

Breakfast is generally not included with a stay at Mercure Wrocław Centrum. You can add this to your booking or choose on a day to day basis during your stay. A buffet breakfast is offered and it costs around 80 PLN or around £16.

We chose to have the buffet breakfast on one morning of our stay when we needed something early and before we headed out. Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant which can be found just to the back of the hotel bar. The restaurant has lots of seating and although it was quite busy, we didn’t struggle at all to get a table.

Waffle at Mercure Wrocław Centrum breakfast

For the high price, I expected quite a lot from this breakfast and I wasn’t disappointed. As I looked around the breakfast buffet, I could find so many things that I wanted to eat. You can expect a traditional kind of European breakfast buffet here, with items such as cheeses, meats and fresh breads along with yoghurts and fruit. For hot items there was a variety of sausages and eggs as well as grilled vegetables. I was so impressed to see a small ‘garden’ where fresh herbs etc. had been grown, which you can help yourself to. It was clear that there was an emphasis on local produce here.

Mercure Wrocław Centrum breakfast fruit selection

A concern was how much vegan food would be available for my sister. While there was quite a lot of choice, there were some things that could have been done better. Instead of having one area with vegan options, things like cheese and vegan cheese were placed next to each other and not clearly labelled. It was hard to tell which was which and unfortunately, my sister ended up eating normal cheese. Even with this mistake, she was happy with the selection.

Sometimes, breakfasts in hotels can be a bit messy but not here. There was always someone cleaning the food area, and restocking, as well as clearing and cleaning tables.

Additional facilities

Mercure Wrocław Centrum offers a range of additional facilities for guests, including:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Water refill stations on each floor
  • Use of the hotel gym and fitness center
  • Children’s playroom
  • Business center
  • Conference room

Would we stay again?

This is a really beautiful hotel and apart from the expensive breakfast, I really couldn’t fault our stay. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful whenever we had any questions and can help with tourist information if needed. With the hotel being in the heart of Wroclaw, hotel guests are able to get to popular areas and recreational amenities quickly and easily, as well being right on top of great transport links. This hotel was the best place for us as it wasn’t far away from anything and we could get back easily if we wanted a break. It’s such a good hotel whether you’re on a business trip or visiting for pleasure.
