Entrance to Wroxham Barns The Christmas Experience

The O'Hallorans

The OHallorans

We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

Our first visit to The Christmas Experience

Although we have been to Wroxham Barns plenty of times over the years, The Christmas Experience is something new for us this year. We were so excited to see how one of our favourite days out would be transformed for the festive season, and we couldn’t wait to visit.

Feeling festive

We were impressed with the decorations at Wroxham Barns as soon as we arrived. From huge Christmas trees, to fake snow, to massive bows on the shop doors, you really feel like you’re going to have an amazing time as soon as you get there. It was a pretty magical feeling and it made us even more excited to see what the event was all about.

Christmas themed activities

Upon arrival we checked in at the Junior Farm kiosk, where we were given a passport for the day! Inside details the different activities to take part in during your visit and there’s space to get stamps after completing each one.

The activities are spread out over the Junior Farm and the Fun Park and they’re all included in your ticket price. There are no hidden fees here so children can really get stuck in.

Elf College at Wroxham Barns The Christmas Experience

There’s a really nice mix of things to do, from decorating gingerbread with Mrs Claus to learning how to be an elf in the Elf College show. This is a really immersive experience and adults can join in a lot too. It was lovely to see Erin having so much fun and trying all of the different activities.

Staff are dressed up and in character the whole time and they were all phenomenal. Stampy the Elf was hilarious and really made a big deal of remembering Erin’s name and playing around with her each time we passed the North Pole Post Office!

Meeting Santa

The Christmas Experience ticket includes a private meeting with Santa in Santa’s Grotto! When you book your ticket you pick a time slot so it’s really important that you don’t miss your time. The visits with Santa are private and can fit up to 14people in a group. Before the big moment, guests waiting for their time have a dry and covered area to sit in, before an elftakes you over. The elves are fantastic and make the build up really exciting and magical.

Erin and Santa at Wroxham Barns

Wroxham Barns have really gone all out with Santa and I can’t even explain how impressed we were with the Santaexperience. Not only did he look like the real deal, but the grotto was so well done. From a nice warm fire to a desk filled with letters, there was lots of details to see.

Santa spent quite a bit of time with Erin, chatting away and making her laugh. We gave a small fact about Erin ahead of the visit so Santa was able to know something about her in advance. This really make this a magical experience, and helps children to believe even more.

We had photos taken by the elf but we were also allowed to take our own and videos if you wanted to. You’re able to purchase the photos taken by the elf later if you want to.

Picking a toy

During the meeting with Santa, your child will be given a gold coin, which can be exchanged for a toy! Instead of being given something pre-wrapped and usually not suitable, the children can choose for themselevs! Toys are organised into age groups and there was lots to choose from. It’s much nicer being able to pick a gift of their choice and the toys were great! Erin picked a puzzle set which she was really happy with.

Explore Wroxham Barns

On top of all of the amazing Christmas activities, you can enjoy the rest of Wroxham Barns at your leisure. Although there are enough activities going on if you only want to do those, you can really make a day of it and visit the farm animals and enjoy some rides. Buying animal feed is extra but you can meet and stoke a bunny or guniea pig for free. I love that there are no hidden costs here and there’s so much to do.

Bunny handling at Wroxham Barns

This is an outdoors day out and during our visit, it rained for most of the day. However, that didn’t stop us from having fun but it’s important to dress appropriately and keep warm!

Food and drink

If you’re feeling peckish during your visit you can buy food and drink from The Courtyard Cafe, The Greedy Goat or the Donut Shack (open during seasonal events). For The Christmas Experience you can also buy marshmallows to toast.

Cheesy chips from The Goat Shed at Wroxham Barns

We chose to get some chips from The Greedy Goat, and they were well priced and delicious! We needed something to warm us up on a cold day but you can also take picnics if you want to. There’s a covered area with picnic tables to eat at too!

Would we go back?

One of the biggest questions to answer is ‘would we go back?’ We had such a magical time at The Christmas Experience and thought it was great value for money. Not only do you get to experience a private meeting with Santa and recieve a gift but there’s so much included in the price. You can take most things as leisurely as you like and really enjoy the activities. Although this was our first visit, it won’t be our last.
