We’re made up of Lyndsey, John and Erin, who all love a new adventure. We try to get away as much as possible, especially during school holidays and variety is a must for us. That means staying anywhere from a luxury hotel to a hostel and it’s not often we go to the same place twice.

With its enchanting streets, wizard-themed shops, and captivating tours, this historic city offers a spellbinding experience for fans of all ages. 1. Visit The Shambles

Although never made official, The Shambles is said to be inspiration for the fictional Diagon Alley. The narrow, cobblestone street with its overhanging timber-framed buildings will make you feel like you’ve stepped into the wizarding world.

As one of the more popular Harry Potter spots in York, you can expect this one to be quite busy. If you get there before 9am though, it should be fairly quiet, as the shops aren’t open yet.

2. The Shop That Must Not Be Named

While you’re down The Shambles, be sure to visit The Shop That Must Not Be Named. This dedicated Harry Potter shop is a must-visit for fans and it offers a wide range of Harry Potter merchandise. You’ll find all kinds of things from the Harry Potter films such as  wands and robes to collectibles and memorabilia. This is a really popular location and queues start quite early. Arrive early to avoid crowds and get the best selection of items.

3. Wizard Walk of York

Embark on a magical walking tour around York’s city centre. A knowledgeable guide who will entertain you with tales of magic and mystery as you explore the historic streets of York a. This tour is perfect for families and Harry Potter enthusiasts.

4. York Railway Station

It is said thatYork Railway Station is reminiscent of King’s Cross Station, where Harry Potter famously caught the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9¾. Take some time to explore the station and put yourself into the world of wizardry. Train fans can head to the National Railway Museum nearby for an added bonus.

5. A round of golf at The Hole In The Wand

 Harry Potter fans will be delighted to know that there is a wizard themed mini golf course in the city of York. The Hole in the Wand is such a magical place, offering the perfect to have some wizard themed fun in the city. The holes have a cap of 6 shots per player, to ensure no build up around the course. You can have fun photos taken before the game, as well as being given the chance to win prizes such as a bottle of basilisk blood or unicorn essence!

It’s important to book a game in advance, especially during school holidays and weekends, as slots get booked up quickly.

6. Make potions at The Potions Cauldron

A few minutes’ walk down the shambles and you’ll find The Potions Cauldron, one of the Harry Potter-themed shops. As well as a shop full of Harry Potter related merchendise, you can also book into a potion making session. There are family-friendly and adult versions available, at prices that are really affordable. Sessions take place in the back room of the shop, where you’ll have such a great time on this potions experience, while descovering some secrets and magic at the same time.

7. Visit Goathland Railway Station

If you want to venture further afield, why not head to Goathland Railway Station, part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Goathland Station is better known as Hogsmeade Station and you’ll remember it from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. You can catch one of the steam trains here, and pretend like you are on your way to Hogwarts!
